morbidium's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Downtime I belong to a couple free UO shards.(HOLY SHIT .....REALLY?!) And all of them piss me off. Let me start by saying that if you do not know what UO is go here, and let me add that if you find yourself bored stiff reading posts that constantly bitch, you might wanna leave. Now, as I was saying, the free shards piss me off. One reason is because I have a certain set of standards about how shards for UO should be run, whether they be OSI shards, or free ones. The second reason is because it seems to me that most of the people who start and administrate free UO shards are easily bored, or shouldn't take on a responsibility to players if they can't devote time to the shard. My current free shard obsession is called Endless Shadow. It's a decent shard, no reagents are needed, super fast skill gains, nice staff, with one MONUMENTAL flaw..... The shard admin. is firstly a full time employee somewhere that doesn't permit him to keep tabs on the shard, and secondly a full time college student that also omits his presence on ES. Given these two cirumstances, the shard admin. sucks. Since I don't have access to the "bitching" forum on our shards forums, I must bitch here for fear if I post this somewhere else on the forums, he'll ban my IP, which would cause an enormous amount of suckitude on my part. So, here goes..... If you're constantly busy, why the fuck would you create something that others depend on?! Whatever happened to responsibility?! So you got home at 2am, that's your fault for starting this shard, get online for 5 minutes to see if the shard is infact UP! The shard's been down since Wednesday night, it's friday morning now! You mean to tell me you didn't know the shard was down because you couldn't take 5 minutes out of your stupidity schedule to check the mother fucker?! Then you shouldn't be an administrator! You should be a player like the rest of us peons! Owning a UO shard is a responsibility, not something to do in your spare time! People rely on this shit! Fucking numbnuts! Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad that the shard's down, I can handle that. What I AM mad at is that I just found out that when it went down Wednesday night, the admin. didn't check it! It's Friday morning now, and he JUST FOUND OUT that it was down when one of the Seers called him on the goddamned phone! 48+ hours and you can't take 5 minutes between taking your morning crap and walking out the fucking door to check your fucking shard?! People like this guy are not admins., they're fucktards who like to get off on the fact that they do indeed own a free UO shard, it's a status symbol. The shard will fold in 2 months. Everyone will leave it for a more stable shard. I know what all of you are thinking between long, drawn out yawns and snores. You're thinking, "...well, if you're so smart and pissed off by it, why don't YOU start a shard and then you wouldn't have a reason to bitch?!" Simple. Because I also don't have the time or energy to run it. Although, the difference between myself and the shittiest admin. of the century is, I know it and, most importantly, ADMIT IT! I didn't start one to impress my friends with my custom scripting abilities, which coincidentally are sorely lacking and are, in fact, another reason that I don't own one. But, I do know a few people have quit over the downage of this shard, even though this shard is superior in it's features than alot of them on Gateway. I just feel that I need to pound his head farther into the man made sandbox that is his life. So, the search goes on for the perfect free UO shard. Which brings on another thing you all are probably saying between groans at reading this entry. "....well, if it's FREE, then you have no room to bitch." Au Contrare! I do indeed have a right to bitch when I spend my free time(what little there is of that) making characters and developing them and depending on a free service. It's still a responsibility, whether it be free or not. Now downage caused by scripting and rescripting is understandable, but a downage lasting 48+ hours, without notice, due to the admin. stroking his dick rather than spending 5 minutes before his morning dump to check it, is really unnecssary and inexcusable. So, end soap box monologue. Enter rant about mysterious song I heard last night on a ride at the fair. I don't know who sings it or what it's called but I like it, and I'll probably never hear it again. Cue:crying inconsolably. End post because I hear crickets..... 11:38 a.m. - July 16, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
